Spread the love

Lois P. McDonoughLois Pauline McDonough, affectionately known as Mrs. Mac, passed away on the early morning of Wednesday, May 24, 2023, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the centenarian age of 100. She was born in Covington, Oklahoma, on November 19, 1922, to James and Alice DeNeef Culbertson, the middle of five children with two older sisters and two younger brothers. When she was young, her family moved to a farm in Hayward, Oklahoma. She endured the harsh days of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl while living on a farm. Lois attended school from kindergarten to her senior year in Hayward, serving as class president her senior year.
Several years after graduation, Lois moved to Enid, Oklahoma, to attend secretarial school. It was there she met the love of her life, Charles McDonough. They married October 16, 1947, in Enid, and enjoyed 43 years together before his passing.
Lois served in the church for most of her life. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Owasso. She taught the 3 & 4 years olds Sunday School class and also worked Vacation Bible School for many years. She washed the baptismal robes and kitchen towels, and helping in any way she could.
When her daughter, Janet, was in Brownies, Lois was the local Girl Scout cookie distributor. Their small home was packed with cases and cases of cookies before being distributed to the Brownies and Girl Scouts. She also assisted Mr. Mac with his work in the Boy Scouts.
Lois worked alongside her husband in the donut shop, during his locksmith years, and she attended many Owasso Ram sporting events with Mr. Mac. On top of that, she sold Stanley products well into her nineties. She was also active with the Owasso VFW Auxiliary and was a longtime worker at Wal-Mart.
Lois was always independent and lived alone until the age of 94. You could see her in the front yard picking dandelions and tending to her flowerbeds, especially her irises and mums. She truly lived her life as a servant to others and loved to bake cookies, cakes and bread for everyone. After a bad fall in 2016, Lois moved to the Baptist Village, where she lived out the rest of her life.
