Question:
I take metformin for pre-diabetes and I was told that it can also increase fertility. Is there any truth to that?
Answer:
Metformin is a drug used to help regulate diabetes. In women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), metformin – along with Clomid – helped in achieving pregnancy. Clomid is an ovulation-inducing drug that you can get from your doctor. PCOS is a syndrome in which multiple cysts are formed in the ovary but there is no dominant follicle. This results in anovulation (or no ovulation). Patients who experience this tend to not have cycles. They are also usually overweight with abnormal hair growth on their face and chest.
