Miss Cherokee 2015-16 application now online
Junior Miss Cherokee, Little Cherokee Ambassador applications also available
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Young Cherokee ladies hoping to serve as the next 2015 Miss Cherokee and represent the tribe as its ambassador can now pick up an application.
The deadline to apply is July 10. The Miss Cherokee Leadership Competition is held Saturday, Aug. 29.
“The competition was fun and educational and is not a beauty contest,” said Lisa Trice-Turtle, Miss Cherokee sponsor and the 1986-87 Miss Cherokee. “To me, being Miss Cherokee was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and an honor to represent the Cherokee Nation traveling throughout the 14-county area and statewide to share stories of our rich culture and history, while making new friends.”
Miss Cherokee contestants must be between the ages of 17 and 22 on Aug. 29. Candidates cannot have previously served as Miss Cherokee and must be a Cherokee Nation tribal citizen living in the 14-county tribal jurisdiction.
In the past year, Miss Cherokee has attended the White House, Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, Oklahoma Capitol Building, tribe announcements, facility ribbon cuttings, community meetings and schools.
Applications for Junior Miss Cherokee Leadership Competition and Little Cherokee Ambassador Competition are also now available. The deadline is July 22.
To run for Junior Miss Cherokee, contestants must be between the ages of 13-18, be a Cherokee Nation citizen and reside within the 14-county tribal jurisdiction.
