Early Voting Begins on Thursday, February 6, 2014
New Oklahoma law changes “early” voting to the prior Thursday and Friday; affects February 11th’s annual special election.
A new state law which took effect on November 1, 2013, changes the dates and times voters have come to expect for early voting in Oklahoma. Now, early voting begins a day earlier – on Thursday-and continues on Friday, Rogers County Election Board Secretary Julie Dermody said today. Of special note, all early voting on Monday is discontinued.
These changes have occurred due to the approval of SB 869, which was signed into law in May , 2013. As a result, Thursday, February 6th is the first day for in-person absentee aka “early” voting, in the February 11th Annual Election, Dermody explained.
To recap, the changes which became effective on November 1, 2013:
In-person absentee “early” voting now occurs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday preceding all elections. Previously, early voting on Friday and continued on Monday.
Under the new statute, Monday voting is discontinued entirely.
