Owasso High School robotics teams recently competed in the First Tech Challenge state championship in Weatherford, bringing home two individual awards. The teams’ coach, Mr. William Smith, won the Compass award for outstanding guidance and mentorship. Junior Levi Garrison was named a finalist for the international Dean’s List award. He is among the 100 finalists competing to become one of the 20 winners of this prestigious award later this spring.
Owasso robotics has enjoyed four successful state-qualifying seasons, and Mr. Smith is ready to take the program to the next level of competition. First Robotics Competition involves building larger and more complex robots, and provides “real-world” engineering experience that will prepare many of these students for future careers. Involvement in FRC also qualifies students to compete for more than $19 million in college scholarships. To support this higher level of learning and competition, the team could still use more donors and corporate sponsors. Those seeking more information or wanting to help can contact Mr. Smith at Owasso High School.
