Owasso Police Department – Media Release – Whataburger Shooting
At approximately 5:40PM Owasso Police responded to a report of shots fired at the Whataburger Restaurant located at 12903 E 96th St North in Owasso.
Upon their arrival Officers located a male victim with a gunshot wound to the head in the parking lot of the business. While officers attended to the victim, other responding officers searched the area to ensure there were no continuing threats in or near that; or any other businesses. Once it was established the suspect(s) fled the area the business was cordoned off.
There was a report of a possible suspect vehicle that fled the scene prior to the arrival of Police, described as a black Dodge Charger. Officers located a similar vehicle southbound on US169 between Owasso and Tulsa, but it was determined that vehicle was not involved. All patrons and employees of the business were interviewed and released from the scene.
Crime scene investigators are in the process of collecting forensic evidence and the store will remain closed for the next few hours. It appears that at least nine shots were fired in this incident. The casings were of multiple calibers denoting multiple shooters. There were bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle and the victim was struck in the head by at least one bullet. The victim was rushed to a metro hospital in serious condition and is currently under guard.
It does appear the victim made a purchase at the store prior to the incident. Investigators are reviewing witness statements and surveillance video to determine a motive and identify any suspects. We will provide additional information when it becomes available.
