Thursday evening, the Owasso Police Department proudly showed our staff, items donated to them by the Friends of Owasso Police Foundation.
The Friends of Owasso Police Foundation was formed by a group of local citizens to help with the needs of the Owasso Police Department that were not covered by their annual budget. Friends of Owasso Police are a 501c3 non profit. Since their first meeting in January 2015, they have raised nearly $40,000 in donations to aid in acquiring needed equipment for the department.
FOOP has reported these items supplied to date:
- March 2015 donated $5500 to purchase canine officer Mo
- May 2015 donated $2700 to update the technology in 5 detective cars
- November 2015 donated $5759.64 to purchase 36 outer carrier vests for officers
- November 2015 secured a large donation from Becky and Barry Switzer to provide 4 canine officer vests
- February 2016 donated $8700 to purchase canine officer Loki
- May 2016 donated $8400 to purchase 6 tasers
- Remainder of 2016 working towards about $16000 for 4 protective ballistic shields. Thy have provided $6000 of this so far.
Since their inception, a total of $37,059.64 has been donated to the Owasso Police Department by the Friends of Owasso Police, for items they would otherwise not have, or would not be able to accommodate in their budget.
Local businesses and organizations have held or allowed them to hold fundraisers involving their business or donated their meeting space. They have also received grants from all three local Walmart’s and Sam’s Club.
Since their inception, 37 citizens and 120 businesses or organizations have made donations. 32 of those renewed their pledge from 2015 in 2016.
