Teacher Lauren Duncan, who is over the Mary Glass Performing Arts Center at Owasso High School says she feels like a little kid waiting for Christmas morning to get here. On May 23, demolition for renovations will begin on the 16 year old center.
One million dollars from the recent bond election was dedicated for this purpose (and no, this money can not be used for anything other than what is was allocated for).
The current 1503 seats are being replaced with 1497 new, improved (and we are told very comfortable) ones. Old seating will be sold as surplus.
Sound panels will be put up to improve acoustics. New LED lighting will bring brighter and cooler lights to the venue.
Bathroom and dressing rooms will be renovated, and showers added. This will bring the facility to “equity standards” and allow for more outside performances to be brought to Owasso.
New stage lights will be added, bringing innovative aspects to upcoming performances.
Renovations are expected to be completed in January of 2017 and a showcase performance planned.
