Victor Marquez had dreams of becoming a special effects makeup artist in California as a young man. After meeting his wife and starting a family, he decided to settle down in Oklahoma and put his dreams on hold. He began operating a trash business and drivers education classes. In his spare time, Marquez maintained his passion, designing special effects and makeup for local attractions and later an independent movie production. Marquez wanted to do more with his talents, and thought of ways to make his dream a reality.
In 2004, after purchasing 40-acres of woods just north of Tulsa in Sperry, Oklahoma, he entrusted his ideas to his family, builders, a team of actors and volunteers to create the Psycho Path Haunted Attraction. Today, after ten years of experience in the business, you could say his scare schemes are still working.
Every weekend for the month of October, the family-owned and operated Psycho Path attractions scare and thrill guests of all ages. There’s something for every thrill seeker: The immersive “Dark Ride” experience boasts Hollywood-like effects and scenes, complete with an intense, scary journey through the woods. The 20 minute “scareage” ride takes visitors along a nearly mile-long journey through haunted scenes of custom buildings and props with real fog, sounds, smells and the moonlight above.
The 4,160 square foot “Shadow Box” walk-through haunted house takes visitors to see Luthor, an orphan boy who lives at his mortician uncle’s house. Throughout the house, guests witness the true horrors of Luthor’s dark reality.
Visitors are taken through many twists and turns in the Rage Cage maze and the “Last Ride” coffin simulator buries guests alive. The attraction is open to all ages, and offers concessions with Robyn’s Hardens Hamburgers, a DJ, and prizes.
The attraction is open every Friday and Saturday for the month of Oct. and Nov. 1 from 7 pm to 11 pm and Oct. 15, 16, 23, and 30 from 7 pm to 10 pm. Oct. 11 Psycho Path will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a birthday bash and host a Veteran’s Celebration Oct. 18. General admission for “The Dark Ride” is $20 each, “The Shadow Box” is $15 each, and general combination tickets are $30 each.
Psycho Path Haunted Attraction is located at 1517 E. 106th Street North Sperry, Oklahoma 74073. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit psychopathhaunt.com or call 918-288-7685.
