Rex Myron Bennett was born March 1st, 1946, in Miami, Oklahoma, to Jackson (Jack) and Mary Louise (McCracken) Bennett. He went home to be with the Lord November 9th. He was raised in Miami, Oklahoma, and attended Miami schools, graduating in 1964. He continued his education at Northeastern Oklahoma A & M, Miami, Oklahoma and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, graduating with a degree in Business Administration in 1968. After graduating from college, he enlisted in the US Navy. He served for four and a half years on the USS Amberjack (SS522). While on the Amberjack, Rex did a tour of Northern Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. He married Sharon McCorkell, July 26, 1975, in Miami, Oklahoma. They had two children, Heather Rachelle Bennett and Ryan Douglas Bennett. They have made their home in Owasso, Oklahoma since 1987 and have been long time supporters of the Owasso Rams.
Early in his career Rex worked for Lee C. Moore Corporation in Cost Accounting. He was then employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma in Cost Accounting, and then Manager of Office Services and Records Retention. He was a long time member of East Tulsa Christian Church. He was a deacon and faithful servant in many areas whether it was serving on the finance committee, serving shut-ins, mowing the church yard, nursery worker, communion team, or hosting many youth group Super Bowl parties. He has been a member of First Church Owasso for the last 24 years.
Rex enjoyed all kinds of sports. He grew up playing baseball and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. He played and coached men’s church softball teams for many years for East Tulsa Christian Church and Owasso First Christian Church. He particularly enjoyed supporting the Oklahoma State Cowboys as a football season ticket holder for 25 Years. Rex was very involved with Ryan’s teams and enjoyed coaching baseball, soccer and basketball. When Heather was on the High School Pom Squad, Rex was at every event as the “official” videographer.
Following his retirement in 2008, he could usually be found on the golf course with his group of golfing buddies. He was known in the neighborhood for his perfectly manicured lawn and his beautiful display of Christmas lights.
Rex cherished his role as “Pappaw” to his six grandchildren. He delighted in interacting with them whether it was playing games, taking them on golf cart rides, or dragging them around the yard in the little red wagon with his John Deere.

Grandchildren, Noah and Ellianna Risinger; Alexis, Easton, Hallie, and Cadence Bennett.
Brother, Jerry Bennett and wife Keith Ann of San Antonio, Texas; Sister, Phyllis (Bennett) Essex and husband Troy Essex of Miami, Oklahoma; Sister-in-law, Kathy (McCorkell) Ball and husband Terry Ball of Wyandotte, Oklahoma; Mother-in-law, Maxine McCorkell, of Wyandotte, Oklahoma; Nieces and nephews, and Great nieces and Great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Louise Bennett.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at First Church in Owasso. Graveside and interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park cemetery in Owasso.
