On August 9, 2024, The Lord Jesus Christ called his beloved and devoted soul, Robert Jay Hooten, born February 5, 1984 in Lockney, Tx. Robert was a dedicated Catholic who frequently attended the San Juan Basilica in San Juan, Tx. He graduated from South Harlingen South Hawks High School in 2003. After graduation, Robert served his country in the United States Navy for over eight years from 2003 to 2012. During his service in Florida, California, Spain, Japan, and Virginia, he was awarded the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2), Navy Corp Achievement Medal (2), Navy Corps Overseas Service Ribbon (6), and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (6) aboard the U.S.S. KittyHawk and the U.S.S. Pelilu. He was a member of the VFW Post #577 in Owasso, OK. After completing his service, Robert drove trucks for Swift, La-Batt, and was awarded a Million Miles Safe Driving Award from Prime Trucking. Robert is preceded in death by his father, Robert Elijah Hooten. Jay is survived by his parents Richard and Teresa Peña of Harlingen, Tx.; one sister, Delfina Pooler and husband Jason of Rock Springs Wyoming; one brother, Tait and wife Jessica Gripp of Owasso, OK; two nieces and four nephews. Robert enjoyed riding his motorcycle, golfing, bowling, chess, and eating sushi. He particularly enjoyed spending quality time with his family as he traveled across the country. Viewing will be held Sunday, August 18th from 2pm to 5pm. Full Navy honors and services will be held on Monday, August 19th at 11 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Owasso, OK. Funeral services will be conducted by Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso, OK.
