08/05/2019 – Rooms With a Heart, Inc. is a local 501c3 organization in Oklahoma whose purpose is to provide room makeovers for critically ill
children in the community. At Rooms With A Heart, Inc. they believe that a child’s bedroom is a special sanctuary where they can rest and find comfort as they heal. The children on our waiting list are typically unable to interact in the same way as other children their age. Due to risk of infection and/or because of medical necessity they require a space where they can rest and relax in a room specially created to support their long-term health and well-being.
Rooms With A Heart, Inc. was created in 2017 by Cheryl after her work with a similar national organization while living in St. Louis, Missouri. After returning home to Tulsa for work, she wanted to create something that captured the spirit of her previous organization but with a much more local focus.
Rooms with a heart was able to bootstrap the funds to design their first room in May 2018 for a young Owasso boy with Cystic Fibrosis. Their first large fundraiser was held in September of 2018 and were able to secure the funds to create 5 more rooms over the next 7 months. Their goal for the next 12 months is to create 8-10 rooms for those in need.
Owasso mom Missy Swafford tells us this about her sons room makeover:
“Brady spends so much time in his room, doing breathing and chest clearance therapies, and I wanted to make it special for him. But as a single mom, it was just never in the budget. To say the Rooms with a Heart was a blessing would be an understatement! They came in, made his room a healthier space for him as well as making it any Star Wars fans dream! They did for him what I couldn’t, gave him a space that, even while doing treatments and hanging out when ill he could feel happy and just feel like a kid! They will truly hold a special place in our hearts forever”
The organization is currently seeking donations and sponsors for their 2nd Annual Casino Night Fundraiser that will be held on September 19, 2019 at the Greenwood Cultural Center in Tulsa. Attendees will enjoy Vegas style games, food and drinks, as well as door prizes, raffles, and auction opportunities. Tickets are now on sale for this event at www.roomswithaheart.org.
