SUMMER BLOOD DONORS NEEDED – Monday, June 6
Feel good this summer when you support the local blood supply by donating with Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI). Each donor will receive a voucher for two free entrances to the Tulsa Zoo and a “You Otter Give Blood” T-shirt featuring the zoo’s lively otter.
SAMs Club Owasso invites anyone who is healthy and 16 years or older* to save local lives at their community blood drive on Monday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Because there is no substitute for blood, the supply must constantly be renewed for patients in local hospitals. OBI exclusively serves over 90% of the hospitals throughout Oklahoma including all Children’s, Veterans and Indian Hospitals.
Although all blood types are needed, those with O-negative type blood are especially encouraged to donate. O-negative donors make up only nine percent of the national population, however, O-negative blood can be used by anyone in an emergency situation when a patient’s blood type has not yet been identified.
Through a special initiative to support the Global Blood Fund (GBF), any donor can forgo the T-shirt offered in appreciation for giving. In turn, funds so designated will then be contributed to GBF for supplies and equipment for blood centers in the world’s poorest countries.
Appointments are not necessary, but can be made by calling 877-340-8777 or visiting www.obi.org.
