My latest ultrasound shows several fibroids. Should I be concerned?

Answer:

Uterine fibroids are groups of uterine tissue that have grown and formed a tumor. The vast majority of these tumors are benign. They can cause irregular/heavy menses and pelvic pain. If they are not causing any problems, they can generally just be monitored. If surgery is needed, the size and number of fibroids will dictate what procedure is done. As always, annual visits to your OB/Gyn will help monitor these conditions.
