State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister today congratulated Owasso Ram Academy in Owasso Public Schools on receiving a prestigious national award for dropout prevention.
Ram Academy has been named a recipient of this year’s Crystal Star Award of Excellence in Dropout Recovery, Intervention, and Prevention by the National Dropout Prevention Network. It was the only school in the country to receive the award this year.
The Crystal Star award recognizes education programs that demonstrate exemplary practices in reaching at-risk students and helping them to succeed academically and graduate from high school.
Hofmeister congratulated Ram Academy, citing it as an example of the great things happening in Oklahoma schools.
“I send my congratulations to everyone at Ram Academy and Owasso Public Schools. This national honor is well-deserved, and it is a reflection of the creativity, dedication and success of Ram Academy’s faculty, staff and administration. Reducing dropout rates by creating systems that work for at-risk students is critical to our state’s future. Now the nation knows that’s happening at Owasso and in Oklahoma,” Hofmeister said.
Owasso Superintendent Dr. Clark Ogilvie praised the work of everyone at the school.
“As Superintendent of Owasso Public Schools, I don’t believe I have ever been prouder of any group or school site in our district than I was today for the Owasso Ram Academy,” Ogilvie said. “To be the recipient of the prestigious Crystal Star Award of Excellence in Dropout Prevention from the National Dropout Prevention Network is just a phenomenal testimony to the hard work and dedication by the entire Ram Academy staff and their Principal, Dr. Johanna Woodard. Congratulations to everyone there for a job well done!”
