Oklahoma City- The Department of Public Safety is reminding veterans of the availability of the “Veteran” logo which may be placed on the front of Oklahoma drivers licenses and identification cards. Placing the logo on drivers licenses will allow veterans to be recognized for their service. Officials hope the logo will be an easy way to identify veterans for any qualifying discounts.
The legislature approved this idea in 2012 and at that time, there were only two tag agencies able to make the drivers license. Now veterans can have the logo printed on their new license from any one of the 276 tag agencies statewide that issue driver license and ID cards. The logo depicts a waving American flag and is placed above the drivers license photo with the word “Veteran”, identifying the license holder as a United States military veteran.
Those wanting the logo added to their license will need to take one of the following approved forms of proof of military service, along with their military discharge paperwork, (DD-214), to their local tag agency; a valid Uniformed Services Identity Card, a United States Department of Defense Form (DD)214, (DD)215 or a World War II discharge document, WD AGO Form or NavPers Forms that show a discharge status of “honorable” or “general under honorable conditions, an Oklahoma Army or Air National Guard NGB Form 22 or a United States Department of Veterans Affairs photo identification card. The logo is available to anyone actively serving or honorably discharged from any branch of the United States military.
Oklahoma Secretary of Veterans Affairs retired Major General Rita Aragon states, “We owe a great deal to our veterans. Freedom is not free and it cost the lives, limbs and bodies of a lot of our veterans. Many are on fixed incomes and this is a way people and businesses of Oklahoma can recognize them.”
Placing the veteran logo symbol on a license is free, but the license holder is responsible for all applicable fees to replace or renew an Oklahoma drivers license.
