Violet June King, longtime Tulsa resident, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 in Owasso at the age of 90 years. Mrs. King was born February 17, 1926 at Hockerville, OK to James T. and Nellie (Eubanks) Collins. She was raised and received her education there and on June 21, 1946 was united in marriage to Edward Monroe King in Columbus, Kansas. To this union, four daughters were born. The King’s lived in a variety of locations due to Mr. King’s military service. Following his discharge, the family moved first to Joplin, MO and in the early 1960’s to Tulsa. Mrs. King worked as a waitress in the Saint Francis Hospital Coffee Shop until her retirement. Her husband Edward preceded her in death on August 5, 1998. She was a longtime member of Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church and a former member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. King enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking and especially loved gospel and old country music. Family was always a priority and also enjoyed helping others.
Those that survive include her daughters – Doris Laurance and husband Steve of Galena, KS, Brenda Conatzer and husband Ronald of Tulsa, OK, Joyce Glenn and husband Gary of Owasso and Eileen Gordon and husband Roger of Montrose, CO; a sister Dorothy Cupp of Carterville, MO; 11 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Besides her husband, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in the Chapel of Mowery Funeral Service with Pastor Ben Langley of Cornerstone Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso. www.moweryfs.com
