Virginia Lee McGill, longtime resident of Owasso, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 in Tulsa at the age of 81 years. Virginia was born February 6, 1934 in Tulsa, the daughter of Homer O. and Goldie (Horlacher) Lackey. She was raised and received her education there, graduating from Will Rogers high school. On June 16, 1952, she and Gayle Edwin McGill were united in marriage in Claremore. They made their home in Tulsa until moving to Owasso in the mid 1980’s. Virginia worked for many years for the University of Tulsa as manager of their mail department. She preferred the southern Baptist faith. Virginia was an animal lover, especially the cattle they had on the land, but her priority was always her family.
Those that survive and hold many cherished memories are her sons – Mike McGill of Hamilton, Ohio and Patrick McGill and wife Amy of Bixby, OK; one brother Charles Lackey and wife Sue of Tulsa; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, a step mother Ruth Lackey, her husband in 2003, a son Marc in January of 2014 and sister Nellie.
Visitation for Virginia will be held from 3-6pm on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 5th in the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, Tulsa. She will be laid to rest next to her husband following the services.
