Wilma Dean Carter, longtime resident of Owasso, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the age of 85. Wilma was born October 22, 1929 at Westboro, Missouri to William Riley and Della Marie (Hudson) Shelton. She was raised and received her education in Parthenon and Jasper, Arkansas, where she graduated high school. Wilma then attended the University of Arkansas in Little Rock where she received her teaching certificate. On March 3, 1951 Wilma and Joel L. Carter were united in marriage at Jasper. They lived in Arkansas before moving to Des Moines, Iowa for a short time, then returning to Jasper. From 1960 till 1968, they made their home in the Wichita, Kansas area before moving to Collinsville, OK. Owasso has been home since 1977. Wilma was a member of Central Baptist Church, Owasso. In her early years, she enjoyed cooking, sewing and quilting. Family was always her priority, especially her grandchildren, who all called her “Nenal”.
Those that survive include her children – Terry Carter and wife Susan of Plano, TX and Rebecca (Becky) Yarber and husband Greg of Owasso. Also surviving are a sister Beulah Reynolds of Little Rock, AR; three brothers Junior Shelton of Wayton, AR, Gerald Shelton of Parthenon, AR and Sam Shelton of Harrison, AR; five grandchildren Amber Goldsworthy and Husband Bobby of Tulsa, Stacey Burns and husband Shawn of Dallas, TX, Johanna Carter of Plano, TX, Kevin Carter of Plano, TX, Shawn Yarber of Tulsa and two great grandchildren Jett and Ever Goldsworthy. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joel in 2001 and five brothers.
Visitation for Wilma will be Friday, December 19, 2014 at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso from 6-8pm. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, December 20th at the Union Hill Cemetery, Parthenon, AR.
