Wilthamina (Wilma) Simpson Nagel, resident of Collinsville, passed from this life on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Wilma was born April 2, 1929 in Edinburgh, Scotland to William and Davina (Taylor) Thomson. She was raised in Scotland, graduating high school there. At the age of seventeen, Wilma came to the United States with her only remaining sister Jane who was a war bride to begin their new life in Cabool, Missouri. She later moved to Great Bend, Kansas where she began a career as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell (later AT&T) Telephone. Wilma was united in marriage to Harley William Nagel in Great Bend on August 14, 1955. Because of her husband’s work, they traveled around the United States before settling in Tulsa in 1980.. Mr. Nagel preceded her in death in 1990. Wilma was a member of the Anglican Church of Saint Paul in Owasso. She was a lady of varied interests, which included – playing Bunco, working crossword puzzles, and in her earlier years doing oil paintings.
Those that survive and hold cherished memories include her daughter – Carla Fishback of Collinsville; a grandson Stephen Fishback and wife Chryssi of Twin Lakes, Michigan; a great grandson Hunter Harley Fishback; one niece Dee Hamilton and husband Wayne of Harrisonville, Mo; a nephew Curt Baker (deceased) and wife Vikki of Collinsville; three great nephews, one great niece and a few very special friends. Besides her husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, a son Ivan Ray Nagel and two sisters Jane Baker and Kitty Thomson.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 29th in the Chapel of Mowery Funeral Service, Owasso with Father Chris Waters officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Great Bend City Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas.
